I have been revisiting the Peanuts strip lately and I have found it to be morose, sad and depressing. Charlie Brown and his friends are incredibly likable characters, but boy do they need to lighten up.

What should be the joyous start of the holiday season has now become a violent free-for-all that showcases the worst aspects of our personalities. Competition, greed and selfishness rule the day in service of the almighty deal. If the time spent waiting in long lines and dealing with ornery fellow shoppers is calculated, the savings are probably marginal. Oh well. Who cares?
