THE RISE OF THE HACKINTOSH

So, you want a Mac computer, but you don't want to pay the overly inflated price for the brand.  You're not alone.   Let's face it, even Mac users -- who love their computers more than life itself -- don't like their prices.

So, what's a computer nerd to do?  Well, if you're like a growing number of eggheads in the world, you put together what is commonly referred to as...  a Hackintosh.

This is a homemade version of the Macintosh computer.  Not necessarily a hacked or jail broken version, but a Frankenstein monster that runs OSX.  In fact, there is an entire subculture of Hackintosh users.

A quick search of the web will produce a number of tutorials, videos and guides to creating a Hackintosh computer from scratch.  One such enthusiast claimed to have bought everything he needed to make the computer for under 200 euros.  I think this works out to be about $350.
